Connecting to the Chakras through Nature

Connecting with the chakras through nature is a powerful way to restore balance and harmony in your life. Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit. When our Chakras are aligned they are turning and keeping our energy field balanced. When they are stuck due to stress, trauma, or life factors our energy field is out of balance. By aligning our Chakras, we can ensure that our energy flows smoothly and supports our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Here is a guide to understanding and connecting with each chakra through nature as well as some connecting practices to help you balance each chakra.

Root Chakra: Meeting the Earth
The Root Chakra is located at the base of our spine and is associated with the colour red and our sense of safety, security and belonging. When it is out of alignment it can hold the energy of fear, abandonment and disconnection from self as well as from nature.

Connecting Practice

  • Grounding: walk barefoot on the earth

  • Movement: dance or practice seated yoga positions such as the Sufi Grind

  • Nature: spend time in nature, surrounded by the trees.

Sacral Chakra: Sparking our pleasure and joy
The Sacral Chakra is located just below your belly button and is associated with the colour orange and our capacity for creativity, pleasure, and joy. It holds the energy of our inner child and our ability to fully experience and enjoy life.

Connecting Practices:

  • Deep Belly Breathing: practice mindful breathing, noticing your belly rise with each inhale and fall with each exhale.

  • Make time for play: commit to creative activities that bring you joy or that you loved as a child, such as painting, drawing, gardening, or knitting.

Solar Plexus Chakra: Your Power Centre
The Solar Plexus is located in your upper abdomen and is associated with the colour yellow and our personal power, confidence and control. This is where we hold our energy, our power in the world. When balanced it helps us to take action and make decisions. This chakra can become depleted through feelings of unworthiness, low self esteem or feeling constantly judged or criticised. All of which can stop us from being our authentic self. It can also be depleted when we do not have enough sunlight as it relates to the masculine energy of the sun.

Connecting practices:

  • Eat yellow foods: include lemon, pineapple, grapefruit, yellow peppers and bananas in your diet

  • Sunlight: aim to get 20 minutes sunlight a day, even on cloudy days the sun is there so get outside and absorb its energy

  • Core exercises: try Yoga or Pilates to strengthen your core

Heart Chakra
The Heart Chakra is located in the centre of our chest and is associated with the colour green and our ability to give and receive love. It is our centre of compassion, connection and well-being.

Connecting Practices:

  • Nature Walks - spend time in green spaces, surrounded by trees and plants

  • Heart Opening Yoga - practice yoga poses that open the heart such as the Camel pose or the Bridge pose

  • Acts of Kindness - express gratitude and notice opportunities to offer kindness

Throat Chakra: Express Your Truth
The Throat Chakra, located at the throat, is associated with the colour turquoise and our ability to communicate and express ourselves. When balanced, we communicate clearly and authentically. It is easy for us to express our needs.

Connecting Practices:

  • Sound Therapy - listen to Solfeggio music or use your voice through chanting or singing

  • Open Spaces - Spend time in wide open spaces, such as the beach or in a field, to feel expansive and free

  • Journal - write down your innermost thoughts and feelings to enhance your self-expression

Third Eye Chakra: Deepen your Intuition
The Third Eye Chakra, located between the eyebrows, is associated with the colour indigo and our intuition, insight, and imagination. It helps us see beyond the physical and connect with our inner wisdom.
